Your address on the internet.
A domain is the string of characters under which your website, your emails and your online services can be reached. Technically it points via the Domain Name System (DNS) to your server's IP address – visitors simply type www.beispiel.de instead of memorising strings of numbers.
A good domain is short, memorable and ideally free of hyphens and numbers. The extension (TLD) signals the context: .de for Germany, .com internationally, .eu for Europe.

Domains – briefly explained.
How long does registration take?
New .de registrations are active within a few minutes. Other TLDs can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours, depending on the respective registry.
Can I transfer a domain from another provider?
Yes. You need the AuthCode (auth info / transfer key) from your current provider. We take care of the rest – the domain is transferred without interruption. See also moving to us.
What is a subdomain?
A prefix in front of your actual domain – e.g. shop.beispiel.de or blog.beispiel.de. You create subdomains free of charge in unlimited numbers.
What does DNS management mean?
Via the DNS settings you define where your domain points – which server delivers the website, which mail server receives emails and much more. With us you have full access to all common records.
What does Whois privacy mean?
Instead of your private address, a neutral placeholder is stored in the public Whois – enquiries still reach you, while your data stays protected from scrapers and spam. You switch it on yourself in the customer center under “Domains”, provided the extension supports it (e.g. .com, .net, .org, .info). For .de, the Whois data has been heavily reduced since the GDPR anyway.
What does renewal cost?
Renewal costs the regular annual price of the extension – no price jumps after a first-year teaser deal. Where it differs from the registration price for an extension, this is shown below the price list. If you have switched off automatic renewal, we remind you in good time before expiry.
How do I cancel or transfer a domain?
Cancellation any time at the end of the current contract period (term usually 1 year, notice period 1 month before contract end). For a switch, you retrieve the AuthCode yourself in the customer center under “Domains” – the transfer-out is free of charge on our side.
Can I book a domain without web hosting?
Yes. You can register domains as a standalone product and add hosting later – or use them with another provider.
Goes well with it: mailboxes under your new domain come with email hosting, and the visibility subscription makes sure your business is found in your region.
